The Department of Tourism, Government of Puducherry in association with the Kite Life Foundation will be holding Puducherry’s first Kite festival this August 15 – 17. The event will be organized at the Uppalam Port Ground and will have a lot of fun events to look forward to. Apart from a kite making workshop with kids above 9 years of age, the festival will also have kite making and flying competition, kite exhibition, rangoli contest, and poem writing on kite.
Kites, which are more often than not associated with Independence Day will serve as a great sport for the people of Puducherry. As is common knowledge, Puducherry celebrates not one but two Independence days, one on August 15, of India, and one on August 16, of the Union Territory. It is with this thought in mind that the Government of Puducherry has moved forward to organize this festival in these holidays.
The co-organizers of this festival, the Kite Life Foundation is an NGO based in Kochi, Kerala. They support environmental causes, basic amenities and social campaigns. They are often involved in organizing Kite Festivals along with other activities like coastal Clean-ups of sea shore, river banks, and water bodies, initiate water treatment plants at government hospitals for patients’ benefits. The Kite Life Foundation became a Social Outreach Accreditation Program (SOAP) member in 2011.
The festival will be a three day festival which will run from 3pm to 6pm throughout the weekend.
